Adaptogens

Adaptogens are a class of healing plants that assist your body in resistance to stressors- physical, emotional and etheral. Adaptogens help the body adapt to internal and external stress. They support your adrenal glands.

{A little about the adrenal glands : these glands manage our response to stress and excrete cortisol – this hormone is released at times of stress and serves many important functions in your body. Having a healthy balance of cortisol is essential to good health. When we have elevated cortisol levels due to chronic stress, it puts our body into a fight or flight mode. This can be detrimental to our health. When under constant stress and prolonged periods of stress your adrenal glands will burn out and affect your body’s ability to cope to stress. Elevated levels of cortisol in your body will result in high blood pressure, feeling anxious and irritable, low energy, weight gain and bone loss, as well as an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease.}

Adaptogens promote overall well-being because they help resist the effects of stress on the body, reduce long-term cortisol levels and emotionally they help you cope with anxiety and fatigue.

Adaptogens don’t target a specific ailment ~ they support adrenal function, help the body resist the adverse effects of stress and help to normalize body imbalances bringing the body back to a state of homeostasis.
